We featured this game in our magazine's Arcade section! The review:
Tetris, like communism, is a spectre that haunts—whether in spinoffs, re-iterations, cash grabs, mobile ports, or high-level competitive play; psychedelic visuals or PTSD treatment, you don’t have to look far to find Tetris somewhere. In the HOUDINI arcade, if we include one iteration, it might as well be the Soviet original. The whirl of the fans makes the ambience really cozy. The lines and the way the ASCII display uses the dots in the background? You stare at that, and you really get why the term "Tetris effect" exists. The keyboard controls might take a bit of getting used to, but this is an excellent piece of playable people’s history.
I've tried it, and there are no words to describe how good this is! You did an amazing job.
Question: is the game still going to receive updates? If so, it would be great if you could implement these things:
1) Add a way to toggle the sounds of the fake key presses on and off (leaving just the beeps), as they might be annoying for some people.
2) Add to the controls legend on itch.io the keys that aren't listed (F11 to toggle the blurry effect of the Elektronika 60 on the Windows version and F2 to enable what I like to call "developer mode", which lets you see the game's basic appearance).
3) Add to the Hard Drop buttons the ↓ key, so the game can be fully played one-handed.
4) Add permanent high scores.
These are of course my personal suggestions that I think would make the game even better, and I do not want to put any pressure on you: if you're no longer working on this project, just know that it is already peak.
Sorry for the long yapping, and thank you again for giving us this treat. Take care!
